Description Product Description All standard group 24 batteries and their sub-groups are the same size except for a group 24F battery which is slightly larger. Our Group 24 Battery Box will fit both group 24 and group 24F, including all batteries that measure up to 10-3/8″L x 7″W x 9-1/2″H. Please measure your battery before ordering to make sure it will fit. This battery box is commonly used for auto, marine, and RV batteries. It is impact-resistant and will give years of great protection for your battery. The cover has built-in vent channels to allow battery gases to escape. This container is made of heavy-duty polypropylene which is not be affected by battery acid, oil, gasoline, and other harsh liquids. It includes a hold-down strap and a mounting hardware kit. Our battery boxes are made in the USA at our factory in Ohio. We also make other sizes that will fit 6-volt, group U1, and group 27 batteries. Our Large Adjustable Battery Box will fit any group 24, group 27, group 29, or group 31 battery. Each model includes an acid-proof cover with built-in port slots to route the cables to the terminals. Battery Box History In the past, the term “battery box” was used to refer to a battery case, the outer shell of the battery that contains the lead plates and battery acid. In the last few years, much progress has been made in the manufacturing process. As time went by, improvements were made to reduce the expense of molding these containers. The high cost was due to the large number of rejects due to a non-uniform wall thickness. The lack of precision that existed in the tooling was required, because the tooling press was heated to vulcanize the rubber. In order for the sliding parts to work in a high-heat setting, it was vital to design them with a fixed gap between them. This obviously caused many battery boxes to be defective and therefore had to be discarded. In 1949, C. L. Gougler improved this process with his new press for molding battery boxes. Over time, many other improvements have been made, resulting in the production of battery boxes with almost zero defects. The term “battery box” no longer refers to the outer part of the battery itself. What used to be called a battery box is now called a battery jar. Instead, that term now refers to a different item that houses the entire battery.
